Creating Smiles for 'Africa!' - Big Hearts creating Big Smiles
Children with facial deformities such as Cleft Lip / Palate find it difficult to perform simple tasks like breathing, eating or speaking. The psychological effects are often catastrophic. One third of women who give birth to children with facial deformities consider committing suicide and babies born with facial deformities are often abandoned due to the social stigma. The Wentworth Foundation seeks to nurture all its patients in an atmosphere of positivism and fortitude in addressing conditions that may require many years of sustained treatment and rehabilitation through the effort and determination of a team of medical experts. Our aim is for the patient to leave us with smiles for 'Africa!' and with the confidence to create positive and empowered change in their lives and the lives of the communities. The Wentworth Foundation is a registered South African NGO for the treatment and rehabilitation of facial deformities in indigent children. |
